** EMPLOYMENT ** Scam (2/13/2018)

The following is a scam that tricks its victims into thinking that they are applying for a job. The scammer sends out a false job offer that is often too good to be true. In this case the scammer ask the victim to send over personal information (Full name, Residential Address, Alternative Email, and Cell #) which can be used to impersonate the victim.

To spot a scam like this consider the offer. Does it sound too good to be true? The email is being sent from a non-business address with a different name than the sender. The attachment is a text document requesting the students send their personal information to the scammer’s email address. This is a variation of a previously posted phish. This time it seems the scammer forgot to paste the contents of the text document into the email body, instead placing it as an attachment. ( I have posted the contents of the attachment here)

Remember if it sounds too good to be true, it most likely is a scam.
